You may have read her series "Gregor the Overlander", but if you haven't been living under a rock for the past 5 months, you've known about or at least have heard of Suzanne Collin's The Hunger Games. As her blog puts it:
"Katniss
is a 16-year-old girl living with her mother and younger sister in the
poorest district of Panem, the remains of what used be the United
States. Long ago the districts waged war on the Capitol and were
defeated. As part of the surrender terms, each district agreed to send
one boy and one girl to appear in an annual televised event called, "The
Hunger Games." The terrain, rules, and level of audience participation
may change but one thing is constant: kill or be killed. When her sister
is chosen by lottery, Katniss steps up to go in her place."
All in all, Suzanne Collins is a wonderful writer who has enthralled many, many people and they recently came out with a movie!
This movie is a pretty good portrayal of the book and even if you haven't read it, it's still a suspense-filled, wonderful movie. It's PG-13, so nothing of the ridiculous sorts, but I suggest going to see it before you take any, oh, ten year olds or younger, just so you know when to maybe cover their eyes.
